The Term White Space

I find myself explaining the term of White Space.  When you visit a site the current site page loads into your browser.  You are greeted with either content on every part of the page or with limited well distributed content resulting in less clutter.  Most users prefer the page with even distribution and some blank space known as “White Space”.  Web designers use tables and transparent GIF images to add white space to pages.  In most cases a borderless HTML table is all that is required to create this “White Space”.  Rule of thumb: A web page should be designed to offer information consisely. Provide your users with the basics then give them links to more depth and detail.  Not every user wants every piece of information all at once. If you are providing a lot of information, break it up into more pages.  That way, if the user wants more info they can choose to click on the link provided.

Those Favicon’s

Sorry about not being on in a while. Have been very busy.

Just wanted to say that if you need a favicon created, email me and I’ll do it for you. What is a favicon??

A good example: that big W for WordPress that appears in your browser at the top. That’s a favicon. If you go to QVC you see the big Q in the red block. That’s a favicon.

I use Adobe PhotoShop to create what I want it to look like. Process it, upload it, insert the coding into my homepage and it appears whenever the page is called on.

It’s a good way for people to remember your site. If they put your link into their favorites folder, the favicon is also saved. That old saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” can be very very true since a favicon is nothing more than a teeny, tiny picture!

FrontPage Step 1i

Now your screen..     Your screen in FrontPage should now look like this. You can see under the folder list that FrontPage has created 2 more folders (with more files inside) that it will need later.

This is the end of Step 1. Now see, that wasn’t so hard. If you have any questions about the above, please email me at pi@webdesignbypi.com and I will respond asap.

Step 2 coming soon!
